Expertise and cognitive load article published in Plos One

Pupil diameter differentiates expertise in dental radiopgraphy visual search, which can be an indicator of cognitive load. We found high cognitive load, as indicated by a larger pupillary response, among the students when looking at anomalies regardless of how easy or difficult the anomaly was to determine More interesting though, experts only experienced high cognitive load when looking at anomalies that were difficult to determine. This information on expert visual processing can faciliate effective training interventions for students and intermediates alike.
